Latics kids' cup success

Second-half goals from Luke Wandless and Jack Truelove secured Latics victory in their FA Youth Cup tie against Accrington Stanley at Boundary Park.

And the win booked a home second-round tie against Coventry City.

After a goalless opening half, Latics came good after the break.

Luke Wandless, Carlton McIntosh (pictured) and Danny Gossett all had half chances before Latics made the all-important breakthrough in the 68th minute.

McIntosh was fouled by Ben Proctor and Wandless smashed the spot kick high into the roof of the net.

Left-back Truelove sealed victory with 10 minutes left.

An Accrington defender was struck in the face close to goal by a thunderous shot and Truelove, following up, threaded home a low, angled drive.

Full-time: Latics under-18's 2, Accrington Stanley 0.
