Back to earth with a bump

24 September 2012

Latics' under-16's grounded

It was back to earth with a bump for Latics' under-16's.

Four days after beating Manchester United 3-1, Latics' youngsters lost 3-2 at Blackpool.

Ben Grant, who netted twice against United, scored both goals against the Seasiders, both from the penalty spot.

It was a poor performance from Latics who might have lost by a wider margin but for goalkeeper Luke Brabin who made a number of important saves.

LATICS under-12's defeated Blackpool 7-2 with goals from Kai Hilton, Joe Simms, Tyrese Sinclair and Adam Lomax with the three remaining strikes all coming from trialists.

It might have been an even wider margin of victory as Matthew Lasky hit the crossbar twice.

Latics' goalkeeper Paul Moriarty also pulled off a couple of excellent saves.

THE under-14's were denied victory by a late Blackpool game as they were held to a 1-1 draw.

Brad Kay put Latics ahead and it looked like being the matchwinner until the Seasiders drew level with five minutes left.

Manager Chris Rowney said they were two evenly-matched team, but Latics created the clearer chances.

LATICS' under-10's had a day to forget as they lost 10-1 to Blackpool.

Manager Craig Large explained the score didn't reflect the game as Latics played well at times and created some good chances.

THE under-nine's produced a good overall performance against Blackpool in which they passed the ball well in their mini soccer games.
