Latics look at trialist striker

Latics will take a close look at trialist striker Jose Baxter in today's reserve-team match against Hartlepool United at Chapel Road, kick off 2pm.

The former Everton player (pictured), who is their youngest first-team footballer, is on trial having in the summer rejected the offer of a new two-year deal from the Toffees.

Baxter left in pursuit of regular first-team football and today gets his chance to shine with Latics.

Latics have a second trialist on view, midfield man Eddie Nelson, who is also a free agent and who played in the last reserve-team match against Shrewsbury Town.

The starting line up this afternoon includes four trainees with the most senior players on view young professionals Daniel Taylor, David Mellor and Connor Hughes.

Team: Jacob, Jones, Truelove, Nelson, Belezika, Clarke, Sutherland, Mellor, Taylor, Baxter, Hughes. Subs: McIntosh, Coleman, Pritchard, Wandless.
