Latics holding leaders

Latics held npower League One leaders Notts County during a goalless opening half at Boundary Park.

It was a tightly-contested and often fiesty opening period of few chances for either side.

Though it was a lively start to the game, it was not until the 17th minute that Latics carved out the first clear-cut scoring opportunity of the match.

A defensive clearance fell to James Wesolowski (pictured) whose 25-yard volley flew not far wide.

There was drama midway through the half when County were reduced to 10 men after Andre Boucaud was sent off following a mistimed challenge on Cliff Byrne.

Referee Chris Sarginson immediately brandished a red card deeming it dangerous play.

County immediately substituted Francois Zoko replacing him with Joss Labadie, a more defensive midfield player.

The visitors had their best spell of the match just after the half hour.

Yoann Arquin's angled shot was beaten away by keeper Alex Cisak. And from the resulting corner, Gary Liddle's drive was deflected off Jean-Yves M'voto and over the crossbar.

Late in the half, there was a flurry of yellow cards as tempers became frayed.

Half-time: Latics 0, Notts County 0.
