Latics made four changes from Saturday for tonight's Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie at Chesterfield.Three were enforced as Dean Furman was away on international duty, Connor Brown suspended and Jordan Slew injured.
The only one not forced upon Paul Dickov saw Latics' manager give Dean Bouzanis (pictured) a start in goal.
James Tarkowski was recalled to the centre of defence, Carl Winchester restored to midfield and Matt Smith handed his first of the season up front.
The Spireites starting line up included four former Latics' players - Terrell Forbes, Neal Trotman, Danny Whitaker and Marc Richards.
