Furman's night to remember

7 September 2012

Dean wins first South Africa cap

It has been a night Dean Furman will never forget as he won his first cap for South Africa against Brazil.

And the Bafana Bafana, ranked 74th in the world by FIFA, so nearly caused a major upset after losing 1-0 to five times World Cup winners in Sao Paolo.

A late goal from substitute Hulk, which was scored after 75 minutes, saved Brazil's blushes after what had expected to be a routine victory.

Furman, one of two new caps in the starting line up, played for 59 minutes which remained goalless.

It was a great occasion for Furman who had once previously been an unused substitute for the senior side against Australia four years ago.

The Brazil side included big names such as the Chelsea trio of David Luiz, Ramires and Oscar as well as Neymar, Hulk and Dani Alves.
