Dream debuts for new boys

New signings Matt Derbyshire and Jose Baxter (pictured) each marked their Latics' debut with a goal in a 2-2 draw against npower League One leaders Notts County at Boundary Park.

Latics twice came from behind in an action-packed second half which produced all four goals as well as a penalty miss from Robbie Simpson.

Paul Dickov's side could not have made a worse start to the second period as the visitors took the lead within 60 seconds of the restart.

Yoann Arquin's high looping cross from the left was met by the unmarked Joss Labadie as he ran from deep to score with a side-foot volley low to the left of keeper Alex Cisak.

Latics equalised within three minutes as Derbyshire marked his debut with a goal.

Lee Croft threaded a delightful through ball to Derbyshire who beat the offside try as he raced clear and rounded keeper Bartosz Bialkowski before firing into the empty net.

Having had three earlier shouts for a penalty rejected,  Latics finally won a spot kick in the 68th minute when Derbyshire was bundled over in the box by Dean Leacock.

Simpson stepped forward only to blaze high into the Chaddy End.

That was Simpson's last contribution to the game as moments later he was replaced by Matt Smith, Latics' first change of the match.

Latics made their second change with 13 minutes left when Derbyshire was taken off and Baxter introduced for his debut.

There was further pain for Latics as they conceded a  freak second goal with nine minutes left.

Substitute Jamal Campbell-Ryce raced half the length of the pitch down the right flank holding off Cristian Montano before his cross looped over keeper Alex Cisak into the top far corner of the net.

Latics came from behind a second time as Baxter found the net eight minutes after making his entrance.

Montano headed on Lee Croft's corner and Baxter swept home the ball at the far post.

Latics made their third change with five minutes left as second-year trainee Chris Sutherland replaced Montano.

Baxter thought he had snatched a winner in the sixth minute of stoppage time when Baxter's header was chalked off for offside.

Full-time: Latics 2, Notts County 2.
