Youth team lose to Wrexham

Head of Youth Tony Philliskirk pulled no punches with a brutally honest assessment of Latics' under-18's 3-0 defeat at Wrexham in the Football League Youth Alliance's North West Conference.

"We were second best in too many areas all over the pitch," he explained.

Philliskirk was disappointed with the goals conceded saying keeper Joel Coleman was at fault for the first two and schoolboy Ryan Ellison for the third.

Latics were 2-0 down at the break and Philliskirk continued: "It was a disappointing first-half display, but in fairness we showed a lot more purpose and drive in the second half.

"I don't think 3-0 was a fair reflection of the game, but we were punished for defensive mistakes and at the opposite end didn't take our chances.

"We were let down in the final third of the pitch by either a poor final pass or our finishing."
