Baxter's spark of genius

Manager's praise for Jose

Fans must be aware that Jose Baxter can change the course of a game even when he is not playing well according to Lee Johnson.

Latics' manager pointed to Baxter's equaliser against Colchester United on Easter Monday as a prime example.

Baxter (pictured) found the net with a terrific header, his 14th goal of the season, as Latics came from behind to draw 1-1.

Johnson explained: "With players like Jose, you have to give them the licence to be the genius that is inside them.

"He might see something that nobody else does as you saw at Swindon when he tried a shot from 40 yards out after spotting the keeper  off his line.

"It was probably not on but, when we looked at the DVD, the keeper was well out of his goal.

"Although it was the wrong decision, that might might have won us three points which could keep us in the division."

Johnson added that with Baxter, even when things are not going well, he has the quality to change a game and also a great attitude.
