Murray salutes 10-man Latics

Paul Murray praised the battling display from 10-man Latics reserves who drew 3-3 at Bury in Central League, West Division.

Latics had to play over half the match with a numerical disadvantage after having goalkeeper Joel Coleman sent off.

Reserve-team manager Murray (pictured) said: "It was good character building for the young lads in our team to come back with 10 and also have opportunities to win the game.

"We showed superb character and it was a brilliant result."

Murray says Latics were in control as they led 2-0 until just before half time when they had Coleman sent off.

He described the dismissal as "harsh" given it was a reserve-team match.

Latics went from being 2-0 ahead after 44 minutes to 3-2 behind in the 52nd minute.

The introduction of manager Lee Johnson provided a calming influence as Latics hit back.

Murray explained: "In the second half we played a 4-4-1 and kept compact.

"The gaffer provided a cool head and made time for himself on the ball."
