College and Latics strike partnership

Oldham College and Oldham Athletic are celebrating the launch of a partnership that will see the two join together to develop new and exciting educational opportunities in the town. The project will expand and develop over the coming season to explore as many different creative ways as possible for two of Oldham’s landmark organisations to work in partnership.

" Examples include our construction students working on the new football stand, media students working on the club’s digital publications, through to the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy students carrying out a match day project.

Alun Francis, principal of Oldham College, said:  “You might think a college and a football club have little in common.  However, there is actually a great deal of work we can do together.

"However, we believe these are just the beginnings as we look at strengthening our curriculum around sport, enterprise, leisure management and related disciplines.

“The bottom line for all our work is to support economic growth by developing the current and future employment skills the town needs.

"The football club is an essential component of a successful town and by working together we can achieve much more for everyone.”

“Oldham is proud of its football club, which is greatly supported by staff and students at the College, so we are delighted to be working alongside the team in a project that takes an innovative and invigorating approach to education.

"Oldham College’s staff and students provided us with tremendous support throughout this season, especially during the club's superb FA Cup run. It is fantastic news that two of Oldham’s major organisations have come together in this way and we’re really looking forward to developing a partnership that will benefit the whole of the town for years to come.”

David Broadbent, sales and marketing executive for Oldham Athletic, added: “We are delighted to formally partner with Oldham College as both organisations are currently undergoing exciting changes and developments and our partnership really gives both parties the chance to explore the many ways in which we can work together.
