Cup defeat for Latics

4 April 2013

Shaw is Shakers' super sub

Substitute Braden Shaw was the architect of Latics reserves' 2-1 defeat by Bury at Chapel Road in the Manchester Senior Cup.

Within 10 minutes of making his entrance, Shaw had found the net twice as the Shakers turned a deficit into a lead.

Latics were ahead through a Jordan Bove header only for Shaw to strike twice in the space of three minutes.

After a disappointing opening half, Bove (pictured) opened the scoring just short of the hour with a looping header from a Joe Edwards left-wing cross.

Jack Poxon came close to doubling the advantage with a lob from 40-plus yards which flew narrowly wide after he spotted Shakers' keeper Connor Keane off his line.

Shaw equalised with a low shot from the edge of the box after he was given too much time to pick his spot.

He struck the winner with 13 minutes left as he latched on to a long through ball and lobbed keeper Liam Jacob.
