Penalty-shootout decider

Latics reserves won a penalty-shootout decider 4-2 at Stockport County in the Manchester Senior Cup.

It was brought about after the match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Latics' nerve held as they scored all four penalties while Stockport failed to convert two.

Jordan Bove, Jack Poxon, Connor Hughes and schoolboy Ryan Ellison all scored from the spot while for Stockport Alex Kenyon hit the crossbar and Alex Meaney's effort was well saved by Liam Jacob.

In the earlier action, the first half was largely a non event with Stockport the livelier side.

Jacob had to be alert to turn over an inswinging corner from Sam Sheridan.

It took Latics until the 63rd minute before registering their first attempt on target when a drive from the trialist midfield man brought a decent save from keeper Tom Whitehurst.

Latics took the lead with 18 minutes left after a rare move of quality.

Connor Hughes made a terrific break dwon the left and his low cross was only cleared as far as Carlton McIntosh (pictured) on the right edge of the box and he fired an unstoppable shot into the far corner of the net.

Stockport equalised in the 80th minute when substitute Kenyon was left free to head home a Meaney free kick.
