First-half report

Deadlock yet to be broken

Latics and Crawley Town fought out a goalless opening period of their npower League One match at Boundary Park.

It was a half of precious few scoring chances as each side largely cancelled out the other.

It was a low-key opening from both teams and it took until the 17th minute before Latics created their first chance of the match.

David Mellor delivered a terrific cross from the left for Matt Smith (pictured) to head over at the far post from six yards.

Lee Croft produced a dazzling run and then laid off the ball for Lee Barnard who blazed over.

Crawley came within a whisker of snatching a 33rd minute goal when Billy Clarke's angled shot was turned round the post by Dean Bouzanis for a corner.

Half-time: Latics 0, Crawley Town 0.
