M'voto goal takes Latics to 50 points

Jean-Yves M'voto admitted there was a sense of relief after the win against Crawley Town which guaranteed their npower League One status for another year.

The central-defender scored the dramatic injury-time winner against Crawley after disobeying instructions not to go forward for the free kick.

M'voto (pictured) said: "I wanted to prove I could score as the goal Crawley scored was my fault from the set piece.

"It went in and it was good for me.

"The manager told us the job has been done and we are clear from relegation and we can think about next season."

M'voto's goal helped Latics reach 50 points and finally stave off the threat of relegation.

While Latics' league form has been disappointing, M'voto says there have been positive aspects such as the run in the FA Cup with Budweiser.

He said: "We have a lot of good players but as they have not played together for a long time it is difficult to make things work.

"The run in the FA Cup was good for the club and now we have to do better next season."

M'voto has been happy with his own season in which he has made 47 appearances and scored five goals.

And looking ahead M'voto, who is out of contract at the end of the season, says he would like to stay.

"I am happy here in Manchester so why not? Let's talk and see what happens," he said.
