Making an impression

5 April 2013

Youngsters catch the eye

Lee Johnson insists he would have no qualms about throwing some of the club's talented young players into Latics' battle against relegation from npower League One.

Latics' manager says some of the youngsters are close to winning a call up than they may realise.

Johnson believes he will need the whole of his squad as they embark on a punishing finish to the season.

Starting with tomorrow's visit of Carlisle United, Latics must play their last seven league matches in the space of 22 days.

Johnson said: "A number of the young lads have impressed me in reserve games.

"And some are not as far away from the first team as they might think.

"Football can change quickly depending on performances, results and injuries.

"And someone could find themselves starting or on the bench who has not had a look in before."
