Former player's charity trek
Former Latics' trainee Alastair Morrison is running to Boundary Park for tomorrow's npower League One match against Carlisle United. The 35-year-old leaves his home in Penrith, Cumbria, at 10am today and is due to complete the 106-mile journey shortly before kick off.
He will be raising funds for Amnesty International and The Sick Children's Trust.
When Alastair, who was in the same intake as Andy Hughes, Mark Allott and Andy Holt, was at Latics he stayed in digs with Laura and Mike McManus at their home in Royton.
He has always kept in touch with the family and was upset to hear of the death of the McManus's son Christopher who was taken hostage and murdered in Nigeria.
Amnesty International was Christopher's favourite charity while The Sick Children's Trust is a cause close to the heart of Alastair who now works in the family civil engineering business.
