Morrison's marathon run

6 April 2013

Alastair near journey's end

Former Latics' trainee Alastair Morrison is near journey's end on his marathon run to Boundary Park.

The 35-year-old is one course to arrive at the ground at about 2.30pm after his 106-mile trek from his home in Penrith, Cumbria.

Alastair, pictured en route, left at 6.30am yesterday on his gruelling charity run.

He will be raising funds for Amnesty International and The Sick Children's Trust.

When Alastair, who was in the same intake as Andy Hughes, Mark Allott and Andy Holt, was at Latics he stayed in digs with Laura and Mike McManus at their home in Royton.

He has always kept in touch with the family and was upset to hear of the death of the McManus's son Christopher who was taken hostage and murdered in Nigeria.

Amnesty International was Christopher's favourite charity while The Sick Children's Trust is a cause close to the heart of Alastair who now works in the family civil engineering business.
