Wesolowski misses out through injury

Captain James Wesolowski was ruled out of Latics' npower League One basement battle at Bury through a knee injury.

It meant a new look midfield for Latics who were also without 15-goal top scorer Jose Baxter who was starting a two-match ban.

David Mellor (pictured) and Korey Smith were the new pairing in the middle.

There was also a first start since New Year's Day for Cristian Montano who was on the left wing.

Cliff Byrne had also failed to recover from a groin muscle injury picked up at Preston so James Tarkowski was recalled at centre back.

The starting line up showed four changes from the midweek defeat at Preston as Wesolowski, Baxter, Byrne and Bobby Reid were replaced by Connor Brown, Tarkowski, Montano and Mellor.

Goalkeeper Alex Cisak, who would have been on the bench, was ruled out through a shoulder injury so Liam Jacob was the replacement keeper.

Such were crisis club Bury's troubles that they were only able to name four of their permitted seven substitutes.

Bury (4-4-2): Belford; Worrall, Eastham, Hughes, Ebanks-Landell; Soares, Carrington, Thompson, Ajose; Bishop, Clarke-Harris. Subs: Regan, Healy, Pratt, Mezague.

Latics (4-4-2): Bouzanis; Brown, Tarkowski, M'voto, Grounds; Croft, K Smith, Mellor, Montano; Simpson, Barnard. Subs: Iwelumo, M Smith, Millar, Reid, Jacob, Winchester, Belezika.
