Two-match ban for Baxter

10 April 2013

Byrne injury concern

Jose Baxter is ruled out of Latics' next two matches against Bury and Yeovil Town through suspension.

Latics' 15-goal leading scorer (pictured) picked up his 10th booking of the season last night at Preston North End.

And because the caution was before next weekend's cut-off point, after which there is a yellow-card amnesty, Baxter is banned for two matches.

Manager Lee Johnson admitted it is a "big loss" but says Baxter's pain will be somebody else's gain.

He said: "We are lucky to have everybody fit and 27 players trained the other day.

"We have lots of options and there are plenty of players chomping at the bit to get a game."

Johnson added that Byrne, returning after injury for his first start since the end of February, was taken off as a precaution after complaining of muscle spasms in his groin.

The manager is hopeful it is nothing serious and coming off immediately will have helped.
