Carl's knocking on the door
Carl Winchester is knocking at the first-team door with Latics.Lee Johnson says the 20-year-old (pictured) has possibly been the unluckiest player at Boundary Park since he became manager.
He explained: "Carl is somebody I would like to get into the team and I feel a little sorry for him.
"He has trained really well and deserves an opportunity.
"I like Carl and he has impressed me in training."
Johnson added there are flaws to Winchester's game which need resolving if he wants to go on to a higher level.
"If we can iron them out, he has certainly has some talent," he said.
Johnson believes Winchester, capped once at full international level by Northern Ireland, has to use his best attributes and also add to them to make him "dynamic" in men's football.
He continued: "Carl has to go away in the summer and work on a few bits.
"Hopefully he will come back flying and he will be like a new signing."
