Bove scores four

25 August 2013

Youth team hit Morecambe for six

Jordan Bove (pictured) scored four goals for Latics under-18's who defeat Morecambe 6-0 in the Football League Youth Alliance's North West Conference.

What made the result even more satisfying was the fact that Latics were without EIGHT players.

It was effectively nine as Danny Byrnes, who played twice for Wales under-17's during the week, was only on the bench.

Latics were so short on numbers that schoolboys Jamie Stott and Zac Cooper were involved.

Academy Manager Tony Philliskirk was not only pleased with the result but the manner of the performance as they moved the ball well and created numerous chances.

Latics took the lead after 25 minutes when Jordache Walters ran on to a ball over the top from Michael Brewster and rounded the keeper to score.

Remarkably it was the only goal until just before the break as Jack Tuohy hit a post while John Pritchard had several good chances

Walters turned provider on the stroke of half time squaring a pass for Bove to bag his first goal.

Latics came out with all guns blazing in the second period as they scored four further goals.

Tuohy squared the ball for Bove to fire home his second while his hat trick was completed from the penalty spot after substitute Byrnes had been brought down moments after his introduction.

Bove's fourth goal was his best as he cut in from the left and fired a shot into the far top corner of the net.

Walters set up the last goal as Byrnes bravely won a 50/50 challenge with the Morecambe keeper to score.
