Death of Cliff Stokes

Latics lose lifelong fan

Latics have been saddened to hear of the death of Cliff Stokes at the Royal Oldham Hospital following a short illness at the age of 87.

Cliff, who lived in Shaw, had been following Latics since the 1940's.

A season-ticker holder for much of his life, Cliff was still attending home matches with daughter Jackie, also an avid fan, until recently.

Cliff, a larger-than-life character, was also well known at Latics as he worked at the club until the age of 84 as a part time car park attendant.

He was a painter and decorator by trade and in his retirement also did decorating and cleaning duties at Boundary Park.

Everybody at Latics sends their deepest sympathies to Cliff's four children - Jim, Jackie, John and Jeff - and their families.

Cliff's funeral is at High Crompton St Mary's Church on Tuesday, August 20th (11am).

It will be followed by a wake at High Crompton Conservative Club.
