Manager on new-signing Rooney
Lee Johnson believes new striker Adam Rooney is the perfect fit for Latics.Latics' manager is delighted to have captured the 25-year-old who is his ninth summer signing.
Johnson said: "It is a great acquisition, especially as there was a lot of interest from other clubs.
"It took a big effort to get him so well done to everyone involved as they all deserve a pat on the back.
"And a special thank you to Simon Corney who went the extra mile as this signing was one over and above the call of duty."
Johnson has been impressed with Rooney who has spent most of pre-season with Latics.
He continued: "Adam is a good bloke and a good character. He also understands the intricacies of how important it is to organise on the pitch.
"Adam is a good age, is mobile and has a good scoring record.
"He brings others into play and is not afraid to put his head in where it hurts and take a cut to the eye if that is needed.
"Adam is our fifth striker and we certainly have plenty of options up front."
