Manager impressed by new-boy Lanzoni
Lee Johnson believes new Italian signing Matteo Lanzoni will be a hit at Boundary Park.Latics' manager has been impressed by the 25-year-old centre back who has been on trial for the last fortnight.
Johnson revealed it was a former Kilmarnock team-mate who recommended Lanzoni.
He said: "I was alerted to Matteo's availability by my good friend Manuel Pascali, the Kilmarnock captain.
"He knows a lot of players in Italy and the profile of Matteo fitted what I was looking for so I invited him over so we could each have a look at each other.
"He has played a decent level in Serie B and C1 which is similar to here.
Latics' manager added that Lanzoni, who has represented Italy at under 19 level, has impressed him in training.
He continued: "His attributes - he is aggressive and good on the ball - are more suited to the English game.
"Matteo is a fantastic professional and I am looking forward to working with him."
Lanzoni is looking forward to forging a new chapter of his career in England.
He explained: "I am happy to be here and hoping to stay a long time.
"I have been training here for the last two weeks and it has been a fantastic experience.
"I watched the game against Port Vale and was impressed with the standard of the football.
"It has been a dream to play in English football which is better than in Italy."
