Striker signs two-year deal

Latics have completed the signing of striker Adam Rooney.

The 25-year-old (pictured), who will wear the No 9 shirt, has agreed a two-year contract with Latics also having an option of a further 12 months.

It is a massive coup for Latics as there was interest from a number of other clubs.

Rooney had, however, been training with Latics for much of pre-season.

Dublin-born Rooney kicked off his career at Stoke City at the age of 17. He went on to make 19 appearances for them scoring four goals.

It was at Scottish club Inverness Caledonian Thistle where Rooney made his name between 2008/11 finding the net 53 times in 120 matches.

Rooney then signed for Birmingham City for whom he scored seven goals in 30 games.

He spent most of last season on loan at Swindon Town and will be remembered for scoring a goal with a spectacular overhead kick against Latics.
