Reserve win delights Murray

20 August 2013

It was a team effort says manager

It was not just the victory which pleased Paul Murray after Latics' reserves defeated Tranmere Rovers 3-1 at Chapel Road.

Latics' reserve-team manager was delighted with the quality of the performance in their Central League, West Division fixture.

Murray said "We were good in the first half, but superb in the second.

"The desire and the work ethic was great which has been the case two weeks running in the reserves which has been pleasing.

"We also showed today that we can finish teams off."

Murray described it as a team effort saying it was not only Danny Philliskirk's finishing - he scored all three of Latics' goals - which impressed.

He said: "We won as a team with Danny's finishing excellent, Glenn (Belezika) providing two assists while the back line did really well apart from the goal we conceded which was disappointing.

"Eddie (Ejijs Joksts) impressed in midfield as did Sidney Schmeltz and Kirk Millar out wide. I was pleased with the whole team."

Murray added that a number of players have provided manager Lee Johnson with a conundrum as he prepares for Saturday's home game against Port Vale in Sky Bet League 1.
