John's Channel challenge
While Latics were visiting Peterborough United in Sky Bet League 1, diehard fan John Stigwood spent three and a half hours rowing the English Channel.Stiggy, as he is known throughout the town, covered the 22 miles from Dover to Calais, though on a machine at Elite Gym, Shaw.
The 50-year-old HGV lorry driver, who lives on Limeside, hopes to raise £200 for Dr Kershaw's Hospice and Diabetics UK.
"The hardest part of the day was having to wear a Manchester United shirt as I had been offered extra sponsorship to do so. That was the only downside," he joked.
"It was bizarre how people were sponsoring me to wear the shirt as opposed to doing the row."
Each year John undertakes a challenge to mark his birthday and the latest is being done to mark his 51st which will be celebrated later this year.
Fans can still donate at Virgin Money Giving and inserting John Stigwood. Alternatively forms are at Elite Gym and Fitz's hairdressing saloon on Ripponden Road.
