We lacked a cutting edge - Murray

Reserve-team manager on draw at Wrexham

Paul Murray believes the only thing missing was his team's finishing as Latics' reserves drew 1-1 at Wrexham in their opening game of the season in Central League, West Division.

"Had we had a cutting edge, I am sure we would have had a comfortable victory," explained reserve-team manager Murray.

Murray (pictured) was overall pleased with his team's performance and the attitude of the players, especially the seniors.

He added that a number of established players gained valuable match action - Anton Rodgers played the full match while Sidney Schmeltz, James Wesolowski and Cliff Byrne were on the pitch for an hour.

Murray was also pleased with the performance of youngster Chris Sutherland on his return after injury.

He said: "The attitude of the players was spot on and I was really impressed with that.

"We had lots of possession, had a good intensity to our play and also showed good movement," he explained.

Latics took the lead in the first minute through a goal from trialist Danny Philliskirk while Rob Ogelby equalised for Wrexham following a mistake by keeper Luke Simpson.
