Latics hit back after falling behind

Jonson Clarke-Harris scored a spectacular equaliser for Latics to make it 1-1 at half time in their home Sky Bet League 1 match against Bradford City.

The striker's goal cancelled out the one from prolific marksman Nahki Wells which had given the Bantams the lead.

There was a lively start as Garry Thompson fired narrowly wide for City while James Dayton shot hard and low at keeper John McLaughlin.

Latics also had a shout for a penalty turned down after Dayton appeared to be brought down by James Meredith.

Bradford came agonisingly close to taking the lead in the 16th minute.

Thomspn played the ball in from the right and Wells, lurking at the near post, fired against the crossbar.

Gary Jones' follow-up shot, which took a sizeable deflection off Jonathan Grounds, was well turned over by Mark Oxley.

Korey Smith tested McLaughlin with a long-range drive while the City keeper also did well to thwart Clarke-Harris with a brave save at his feet as burst through on goal.

Bradford took the lead in the 21st minute when Thompson crossed from the right and Wells fired a near-post shot into the roof of the net, his 14th goal of the season.

Latics levelled the scores two minutes later with a spectacular strike from Clarke-Harris.

James Wesolowski burst forward from midfield and released Clarke-Harris who, from the left of the box, rifled an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net, his third of the campaign.

After an eventful opening quarter of the match, it then hit a lull as neither side created a meaningful chance in the remainder of the opening period.

Half-time: Latics 1, Bradford City 1.
