Latics at the double

Substitutes secure youth team derby win

Substitutes Devante Jacobs and Hadyn Foulds were the goal heroes for Latics under-18's who won 2-1 at Rochdale in the Football League Youth Alliance's North West Conference.

Their goals helped Latics triumph at Salford City as they completed a league double over Dale.

Jordan Bove, John Prichard and Ben Grant were all denied by the heroics of the Dale keeper in a goalless opening period in which Latics lost Kyle Hardman through injury early on.

Latics' keeper Paul Tyson also made one fine save.

The breakthrough came after an hour when trialist Jacobs scored with his second touch.

Pritchard headed a clearance from from the Dale keeper back towards goal and Jacobs burst clear, took one touch and found the net with his second.

Dale quickly equalised after Latics' defence failed to cut out a cross.

Latics brought on the fit-again Foulds with 15 minutes left for his first appearance of the season which has been disrupted through injury.

And striker Foulds showed he had lost none of his predatory instinct when he struck the winner with seven minutes left following a neat inter-change of passes with Bove.

Tyson made another fine save late on as Latics suffered several hairy moments defensively.

They could, however, have won by a wider margin as they had further chances, notably one which fell to Jack Tuohy whose great strike flew straight to the Dale keeper.
