Colin and Michael to play in FA Fives Respect Cup

Latics' fans Colin Dargue and Michael Belford have beaten their team to Wembley.

While Latics were cruelly defeated in the Northern Area Semi-Final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy last night to end the dream, the two friends and students from Salford University will be playing at Wembley on Saturday.

Boarshaw-based Colin and Michael, who lives in Chadderton, will be starring for Peel Park Rangers in the first-ever FA Fives Respect Cup.

The five-a-side team, which plays in Salford's JP League, were nominated to compete in the competition because of their commitment to fair play.

And the players were delighted to be chosen as one of the lucky teams who will play at Wembley.

Colin (20), who is studying for a degree in business and finance, said: "It was a shock to find out we had been chosen to play at Wembley.

"I had just finished an exam at university when our team captain broke the news, but I thought he was joking when he said we were going to play at Wembley."

Peel Park Rangers is a five-a-side team comprising eight friends from Salford University.

Colin said: "Most of the teams we play against adhere to fair-play rules so to be nominated and end up being one of the eight selected teams is great.

"We play in the JP League in Salford for a bit of fun and never thought we would end up playing at Wembley."
