Latics defeated at home.
There was little festive cheer on display at Boundary Park this afternoon as Latics slipped to a disappointing 2-0 home defeat against Colchester United. Both goals coming inside the first half.
Manager Lee Johnson made 2 changes at half time with Connor Brown and Kirk Millar replacing Ellis Plummer and Carl Winchester. Latics started the second half strongly with Danny Philliskirk firing into the side netting and Korey Smith seeing a long range drive well held by Colchester 'keeper Walker, who made an excellent save from Connor Brown's left foot shot. Despite Latics best endeavours it was proving to be a frustrating afternoon for the home side. Colchester almost added a third on the break however Ryan Dickson dragged his shot wide when well placed.
John Pritchard came on for his Latics debut as 80th minute substitute as he replaced Adam Rooney and the academy graduate came agonisingly close to marking his senior debut with a superb goal, as his 90th minute effort his the crossbar. However it was not to be as Latics fell to their first home defeat since August.
Attendance: 4,036 (110 from Colchester)
