Manager of the Month

4 December 2013

Johnson fails to make shortlist

Lee Johnson has surprisingly failed to make the short list for the Sky Bet League 1 Manager-of-the-Month award for November, even though Latics were unbeaten in six league and cup games during the month.

The shortlisted managers are:

Mark Cooper (Swindon Town)

His policy to encourage his side to outscore their opponents saw his entertaining Swindon hit 11 goals in five games while picking up 10 points in November. The highlight was a thrilling 5-2 win over Port Vale.

Steve Evans (Rotherham United)

A dominant November as Rotherham’s promotion campaign gathered momentum. Their three victories in an unbeaten month were all gained by three-goal margins, against Stevenage, Coventry City and Gillingham.

Simon Grayson (Preston North End)

Five more unbeaten games took Preston’s current league run to eight and established them in the Sky Bet League 1 Play-Off places. The highlight was a sound team performance in a 1-0 triumph at leaders Leyton Orient.

Uwe Rosler (Brentford)

The winner will be announced on Friday.

A stellar month in which his side picked up 13 points from a possible 15, keeping four clean sheets in the process. Style and substance saw them thump Crewe Alexandra 5-0 and come from behind to beat Peterborough United 3-2.

Former Latics' left-back Joe Jacobson is one of four footballers shortlisted for the Player-of-the-Month award for November.

The judging panel comprises former Charlton Athletic manager Alan Curbishley; Sky Sports Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson; League Managers’ Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Head of Football Paul Wiggins.

Joe Jacobson (Shrewsbury Town) – full-back

Not renowned for his goals, the Welsh defender scored a screamer in the 2-0 victory over Sheffield United and a header in the win at Stevenage to add to typically solid displays at the back as Shrewsbury picked up nine points.

Ryan Lowe (Tranmere Rovers) – striker

An outstanding individual performance with a stunning hat-trick in 5-1 win at Coventry City - a clinical finish, a deft chip and a 30-yard from the touchline. Also scored both goals against Colchester United which made it five in November.

David Mooney (Leyton Orient) - striker

A second nomination this season for the Irishman whose variety of goals – four in November - make him difficult to stop. Two fine finishes at Peterborough United and a beautifully clipped equaliser at Swindon Town secured vital victories.

Joe Garner (Preston North End) - striker

The winner will be announced on Friday.

Scored all five of his team’s goals in the four games he played in November, including a wonderfully controlled hooked winner at Leyton Orient, two headers and an unstoppable 20-yarder in the 2-0 victory at Port Vale.

The judging panel comprises Sky Sports Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Head of Communications John Nagle; League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Head of Football Paul Wiggins
