Manager's call to arms

Fans can be extra man in big cup ties

Lee Johnson has issued a rallying call to Latics' fans for Saturday's FA Cup with Budweiser, second-round tie against Mansfield Town.

Latics' manager (pictured) believes supporters can be an extra man for his team which is attempting to reach the third round for the third successive season and the chance to land another glamour tie.

Johnson said: "It's an important game for us and we need the whole town to come out and help us in this one because we know how big and important it is for the club.

"My message to fans is that if your partner is trying to bully you to do Christmas shopping, you have to be strong and come to Boundary Park.

"We need your support, especially vocal, for what will be a tough game in possibly difficult circumstances with regards to the weather.

"We need fans to turn out for the next two games which are really important. If we can get two wins it will be great."

Johnson admitted there is excitement with Latics possibly 90 minutes away from the third round of the FA Cup.

He continued: "Everybody gets a buzz when the draw for the third round comes around.

"Let's hope all our fans will be sat at home around the television on Sunday afternoon waiting for the draw when there will be excitement and jitters in the stomach hoping we might get a massive draw as we have experienced in each of the last two seasons."

Johnson added that the support of fans throughout the season has been fabulous and is appreciated.

"I am hoping fans come out in large numbers and they sing their hearts out. Let's all do our utmost to be in the hat on Sunday afternoon," he said.
