Murray on penalty-shootout heartbreak

Latics discovered that practice doesn't always make perfect.

First-team coach Paul Murray has revealed how the team practiced penalties in training before the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Area Semi-Final against Chesterfield when they bowed out following a shootout.

Murray (pictured) said: "We did penalties in training before the game and the lads were brilliant with nobody missing.

"We were full of confidence before the penalties but unfortunately Danny Philliskirk and Anton Rodgers had their kicks saved."

Murray added it was again the case of Spireites' keeper Tommy Lee being the architect of Latics' downfall.

"I have been reading about their keeper being a bit of a thorn in the side down the years," he said.
