Thanks to volunteers and groundstaff
Latics' Chief Executive Neil Joy has thanked the army of volunteers and groundstaff for their efforts to get tonight's npower League One match against Yeovil Town played. They cleared several inches of snow from the pitch which passed a lunchtime inspection.
However, a further heavy fall on snow early in the afternoon left the surface covered again and with no hope of clearing it before the scheduled 7.45pm kick off.
Mr Joy said: "Volunteers and groundstaff worked hard throughout the day, but ultimately their valiant work was in vain.
"Despite every effort being made, they were finally beaten by the weather.
"On behalf of the club, I would like to thank them for their efforts to try and get the game played."
