Byrne out of cup tie

26 February 2013

Cliff hurt in training

Cliff Byrne has been ruled out of Latics' FA Cup with Budweiser, fifth-round replay tonight at Everton.

The defender (pictured) hurt his ankle yesterday in training.

He was taken to hospital for an x-ray which revealed no break.

Byrne, who left Boundary Park yesterday on crutches, will now have a scan to discover whether there is ligament damage.

He had been on the bench for the last four matches and, as a senior player, had also been assisting Caretaker Manager Tony Philliskirk from the technical area.

Paul Murray is also ruled out as the midfield man is cup tied having played in the competition for Hartlepool.

James Wesolowski has recovered from the tight hamstring which ruled him out of Saturday's home game against Portsmouth.

He is back in the squad and also added to the party are Carl Winchester, who has recovered from the ankle injury picked up last Tuesday at Stevenage, Cristian Montano who is back after a near two month lay off, and Liam Jacob.

Centre-back James Tarkowski, who came off towards the end of Saturday's game against Portsmouth complaining of a tight hamstring, has been declared fit.

Squad: Cisak, Brown, Grounds, Wesolowski, M'voto, Tarkowski, Croft, Furman, Iwelumo, Simpson, Montano, Bouzanis, Smith, Obita, Barnard, Taylor, Baxter, Millar, Jacob, Winchester, Belezika, Mellor.
