Chairman on cup draw

It's been a lot of fun, but also stressful - Simon Corney

Chairman Simon Corney has described Latics' incredible run in the FA Cup with Budweiser as one of the highlights of almost 10 years at the club.

After seeing his side in the quarter-final draw and the lowest-ranked team still remaining, Mr Corney is proud of the achievement.

"The cup run has been a lot of fun, but also stressful," he remarked.

Mr Corney (pictured) did not want to look too far ahead to the prospect of playing Wigan Athletic in the last eight.

He explained: "First we have a very hard task to beat Everton who will be favourites in the replay as they are at home.

"If we get through, who knows what might happen?

"It was just nice to be in the quarter-final draw after yesterday's terrific performance against Everton."

Mr Corney added the cup run has been great for the club in terms of finance and raising its profile as well as for the fans and the town as a whole providing a feel-good factor in the tough economic climate.

He continued: "The fans were again incredible and for me they were the highlight of the day.

"The way they got behind the team and stayed behind long after the final whistle to cheer the players when they were doing the warm down. That was the most pleasing aspect seeing how much it meant to them."
