Taylor nets injury-time winner

Daniel Taylor scored an injury-time winner for Latics' reserves who beat Fleetwood Town 2-1 in the quarter finals of the Lancashire FA Senior Cup.

With the game heading towards a penalty-shootout decider, Taylor (pictured) slotted home the winner to book a semi-final date against Manchester United.

It was a terrific performance at Chapel Road where Latics reserves were beaten 6-2 by Fleetwood in a friendly in December when they found themselves 5-0 down after 38 minutes.

They were essentially the same line ups, but Latics' young side battled and showed grit and determination against a team of experienced professionals.

Fleetwood made the brighter start and had a number of half chances before Latics began to impose themselves on the game.

Chris Sutherland forced a fine save from keeper Oliver Martin who also fumbled a shot from Kirk Millar.

Latics made a 25th minute breakthrough when Fleetwood failed to clear a corner.

Glenn Belezika laid the ball off to Jack Poxon whose shot was deflected in by Carlton McIntosh with both players claiming the goal, though Poxon appeared to have the stronger shout.

Fleetwood equalised late in the half when Gareth Evans cut in from the right and fired a low shot past keeper Liam Jacob.

Kieran Charnock struck an upright and Nathon Pond was denied by a brilliant block by Jacob as Fleetwood made a great start to the second period.

Latics came back as substitute Luke Wandless struck the crossbar and McIntosh shot just wide.

They were eventually rewarded with a 91st minute winner when Poxon's crossfield pass released Millar on the right and his low cross was slid in by Taylor.
