Club's policy to develop own players
Following an extensive internal and external consultation process, Oldham Athletic can announce that they will continue to operate a 'Category Three Academy' under the management of Tony Philliskirk.
Chief Executive, Neil Joy said: "We have a proven track record for developing our own players right through to becoming professional footballers.
"Over the last month or so we have been reviewing our plans for the future of the whole club in light of the increasingly difficult financial circumstances under which we operate.
"The direction of the youth department has been a key component in that review and we felt it right and proper to extend the debate on its future outside of the club.
"That debate is now concluded and the Academy will continue in its current form.
"Fans should be assured that the club will continue to place great emphasis on the development of young talent and the club would like to place on record its appreciation to all those who took part in the discussions."
Academy Manager Tony Philliskirk said: "This brings to an end a period of uncertainty in respect of the future of our Academy. As a club, we can now move forward with our plans and I thank the board of directors for their continued support of the club's youth programme."
