Latics sign Croft

Winger seals permanent deal

Lee Croft has signed a contact with Latics until June 30th, 2013.

The deal, which is subject to Football League approval, follows parent-club Derby County last night cancelling the winger's deal by mutual consent.

Croft had been on a season-long loan from the Rams but that obviously came to an end when he left Pride Park.

The 27-year-old, whose contract at Derby was due to end in June, is delighted to become a permanent Latics' player.

He said: "I am happy to have signed for Latics until the end of the season.

"When my loan was cancelled due to my contract at Derby being cancelled, it was always my intention to come in today.

"I have enjoyed my time here and wanted all along to stay with the lads."

Croft admitted the next three months are hugely important, both for Latics and himself.

He continued: "They are massive for me. I need to be playing well for myself and, if I am doing that, hopefully the team will also be doing well.

"We have some massive games coming up in the league and we need to kick on and not find ourselves at the bottom.

"And looking at the players we have brought in this week, I am sure will soon start to climb the table.

"There is also the Everton cup tie and there was no way I was going to walk away on the back of the great win against Liverpool."
