Let's not get carried away

Iwelumo's message after "fantastic performance"

On-loan Chris Iwelumo described it as a "fantastic performance from start to finish" as Latics defeated Milton Keynes Dons 3-1 to end their losing run in npower League One.

The 34-year-old striker, who scored on his home debut, added the players have to ensure they build on a much-improved display and start to climb away from the relegation places.

He said: "We were well organised, positive in what we did and moved the ball well.

"I saw the quality of the players from the first day I came in.

"It is all fine and well looking good in training, but it about doing it when it matters on the pitch as we did."

Iwelumo, who has been loaned from npower Championship club Watford until the end of the season, added that it is disappointing to still be in the bottom-four places despite the impressive victory against MK Dons.

He continued: "We are still down there so we have to make sure we maintain this level of performance in forthcoming games.

"Everyone is buzzing and it is a better feeling to have than last week. Long may it continue and we have to make sure we keep our heads down, work hard and not get carried away as there is still a lot of work to do."

Iwelumo added it is proof of the quality of the players how quickly they have integrated into the team.

And he explained under caretaker manager it has been a case of getting back to basics and showing a good work ethic.

He added by doing the right things enabled the quality in the side to shine through.

Iwelumo was happy to score on his home debut (he is pictured celebrating), but added that the win for the team was more important than individual accolades.
