Nightmare for reserves

6 February 2013

Manchester United hit seven

Latics' reserves had a night to forget losing 7-0 against Manchester United at Altrincham in the Manchester Senior Cup.

After a promising display in the goalless opening half hour, it then went downhill for Latics.

They found themselves 2-0 down at the break and conceded five further goals in the second period, four of which came in the last 16 minutes.

Larnell Cole wreaked havoc scoring four goals while there were one apiece for Adman Januzaj, Marnick Vermijl and Jesse Lingard.

Kirk Millar and Chris Sutherland had decent goal attempts for Latics in the opening period while late in the game Luke Simpson pulled off a couple of excellent saves to prevent an even heavier defeat.

Millar was Latics' best player as he made some excellent runs in the opening half while Paul Murray played for 79 minutes.
