Latics' fan watches Furman

He then saw the Bafana Bafana beat Angola with Furman playing the whole match and being named man of the match.

David, who lives directly opposite Boundary Park, watched the opening game of the tournament, a goalless draw between South Africa and Cape Verde in which Furman didn't play any part.

Latics' fan David Nuttall is back from the African Cup of Nations where he watched Dean Furman in action for hosts South Africa.

David watched the first half of the Latics v Liverpool game from the airport before flying home.

"The whole country was raving about him and, when people asked where I came from, I changed my standard reply from Manchester to Oldham with most locals recognising immediately that Furman played for them."

David said: "What can I say except that Furman was on from the start and was excellent.
He continued: "I then had to rely on people sending me regular updates. With the air stewardess imploring me to turn the mobile phone off, the last text finally came through saying Latics had won 3-2, and I was able to settle back in my seat completely relaxed ready for the journey home."
