Latics behind to Sampson strike

Latics' reserves found themselves 1-0 down at half time to a Jack Sampson strike in their Manchester Senior Cup tie against Bolton Wanderers at Leyland.

Striker Sampson broke the deadlock midway through the opening half when he turned neatly on to a Chris Lester pass and scored with a fiercely struck low shot.

Latics found themselves on the back foot for most of the opening period, their only chance coming early on when Connor Hughes shot wide.

Wanderers had a number of chances to increase their lead as Sampson, Lester and Sanmi Odelusi forced decent saves from Liam Jacob while Stuart Holden and Tom Eaves twice also had goal attempts.

Half-time: Bolton Wanderers reserves 1, Latics reserves 0.
