Liverpool cup draw delights chairman

Latics' chairman Simon Corney is looking forward to hosting Barclays Premier League giants Liverpool to Boundary Park in the fourth round of the FA Cup with Budweiser.

Mr Corney added it would have been more lucrative at Anfield, but stressed it is not simply about money.

He explained: "I am happy for the fans and hopefully they will have another great day.

"If we have the same atmosphere as there was yesterday at Nottingham Forest, it will be great.

"It is not all about money and these days are what it is all about for clubs at our level."

Mr Corney added he could not believe it when Latics were drawn at home to Mansfield or Liverpool who played their third-round tie after the draw was made.

"It is quite boring playing the same teams every year!, "he joked.

Mr Corney added there were certain other pairings he would not have been happy about.

He continued: "It is an amazing draw because, after the top four clubs in the Premier League - United, City, Chelsea and Arsenal - Liverpool are probably the next in the pecking order.

"And in terms of the history and heritage of the club, they are arguably above some of those clubs I have just mentioned."

Mr Corney added that he is hoping the tie will be televised which will generate additional income.

"Ideally the game will be televised and, if we don't win, it would be nice to take them back to Anfield," he concluded.
