Latics lose cup tie

Latics reserves could have no complaints as they suffered a 3-0 defeat against Bolton Wanderers in the Manchester Senior Cup at Leyland.

Jack Sampson's first-half goal gave Wanderers a first-half lead and they built on that in the second period through strikes from Chris Lester and Tom Eaves.

Lester fired home an angled shot which went in off the upright after an hour to make it 2-0 for Wanderers who had American international Stuart Holden in their line up as he continued his return from serious injury.

And former Latics' striker Eaves added a third with a glancing header from a corner three minutes from time.

Latics played with more purpose in the second half and created a number of decent chances.

Connor Hughes had two shots at goal, David Mellor's free kick was deflected narrowly wide, Daniel Taylor's effort was well saved by keeper Jay Lynch who also saved well from Danny Gosset.

Full-time: Bolton Wanderers reserves 3, Latics reserves 0.
