Accrington Stanley preview

23 July 2013

Friendly number four

Latics continue their pre-season preparations tonight with a friendly at SkyBet League 2 club Accrington Stanley.

It is Latics' penultimate warm-up match with the new season only 11 days away.

Manager Lee Johnson, who completes his pre-season schedule against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, said: "I shall be starting to approach the game like it is a league fixture and most of the players will get 90 minutes.

"Accrington are good opponents and realistic opposition in terms of what we will play in the league."

Johnson is pleased with the way things are shaping up.

"In the last week we have raised the standard in terms of our opponents going from Curzon Ashton to Macclesfield and now Accrington," he said.

Accrington, managed by former England international James Beattie, will be playing their sixth friendly.

They have beaten non-league sides Nelson, Darwen and Altrincham, drawn with Tranmere Rovers and lost to a full Everton side.

Latics remind travelling fans that kick off is 7.30pm.

Admission prices have been slashed to £5 for all categories with accompanied under-12's £1.
