Bove at the double

Jordan scores twice in youth-team win

Striker Jordan Bove scored twice for Latics under-18's in a 3-2 victory at Glossop North End.

And Academy Manager Tony Philliskirk was delighted with the way his boys acquitted themselves against the men from the North West Counties League side.

Latics made a perfect start at Surrey Street where Danny Byrnes set up Bove who fired Latics ahead in the first minute with a shot from outside the box.

Glossop equalised from a free kick which took a deflection past keeper Joel Coleman.

It was 1-1 at half time, though Latics ought to have been ahead as Bove could easily have completed a hat trick while Haydn Foulds went close with a header.

Philliskirk made six changes at the break bringing on first-year trainees.

Latics found themselves under the cosh and fell behind midway through the second period following a goalmouth scramble from a corner.

A piece of magic from John Pritchard earned Latics a penalty which Bove converted to make it 2-2.

Latics conjured a winner from a short corner which Jack Truelove smashed home.

In the latter stages, Latics were holding on as Jack Tuohy and Truelove made important goalline clearances.

Late on, Latics also had two 15-year-olds on the pitch, keeper Chris Renshaw and defender George Edmundson.

Philliskirk singled out Kyle Hardman (pictured) saying he was outstanding as in the match he played right back and right across midfield in a total of four different positions in the match.
